And please don’t give me this crap about the young generation being the major culprits. We have had these proverbs and sayings for hundreds of years which stereotype a community. They have been a part of our lives since the dawn of civilization.

nepalis are no more security gaurd, now making prashant win was also evidence of this . any shit spoken about nepalis is not at least tolerated in north east since the majority of ethnic indian nepalis reside. and due to the buereaucratic positions hold by the nepalis or gurkhas. im a mba and my sister works in topmost position in uno. is every nepali a security gaurd. sikkim is one of the nepali majority state having nepali and english as official language as well as nepali being common language in sikkim. darjiling is a gurkha council which means the place of ethnic nepalis.

there are many stong gurkha organisations in north east, which can be disastrous when challenged. nepalis are simple, nepalis you may think to be dumb, but my dear racists nepalis can be more dangerous than you may ever imagine

Well I have been following this episode for the last 10 days. I must say that this Nitin fellow is a big ’show off’. I went through his orkut profile and I think he is trying to be maybe Jim Carey. He wants to be funny which he isn’t. I must say that the Gurkhas are one of the most feared and dreaded warriors and are known to lay down their lives in the call of duty. He had no right or business in saying what he did. I am sure he has either left the country or is hiding somewhere deep in the country for if he isn’t, I am sure some manic gurkha or nepali will be after him with a weapon. I think the best punishment for him will be to ask him to do what he claimed that Gurkhas do, i.e. guard someone’s house or office for a week. He also forgot that the gurkhas and nepalis are also guarding the country’s eastern frontier almost single handedly (the Assam Rifles is made up of 90% gurkhas). This also makes this Nitin fellow a traitor. All I can say is that may God grant this brain dead fellow some peace!

Anytime people on the streets make fun of people using their origin as a source, (as Alka says,the girls from the NE being referred to as ‘Chinkies’,for example)it’s time for them to take umbrage,and demand that they’re finally Indians, and do not expect racial comments.

Alka, believe me, once you stay outside our country, you’ll realize such things are of minimal importance. Imagine working, while observing people just idling around,but,they get paid thrice what you’re paid, just because God made them white?

Further,there’s a difference betwen jokes cracked with a deliberate intent to demean the person opposite,and,jokes cracked by,say RJs, who don’t really seem to have malicious intent when cracking them. What do you say?

Praney, I agree with you. The less said about the RJs and DJs the better. Certainly they don’t represent country’s youth. I was reading India Today’s survey few months back, and it said most of the young executives wants to saty home on weekends and wants to spend time with parents, kids or friends. While the hep channels shows as if everyone is out to pubs or discs.

Prancer, I too want to be part of a forum who promotes unity. Please let me know if you start one. There is enough venom and hatred even in blogging world.

Maybe that Gurkha, who appeared for an interview for marketing should also take it humorously when the receptionist says,”Ye Bahadur kahan se aa gaya. Kahi security mei nahi hua kya” Maybe all the girls from northeast also take it humorously when they are openly teased on the road just for being “chinkies” and asked to quote their price. They really need to grow up and laugh at all this day in and day out. What Nitin Mia said was just the tip of the iceberg. A community was already seething with anger for the treatment meted out to them everyday in their own country.
